A psychological horror framework for NeoForge
Shadow of the Soul is not a typical monster mod. It is a system-driven horror experience that tracks the player's mental state through a complex Fear Level mechanic. The environment reacts to your terror, making the darkness your greatest enemy.
CORE MECHANICS
- Dynamic Fear System: Your fear increases in darkness, at extreme depths, and when injured. Standing in bright light is your only way to recover.
- The Watcher: A malevolent entity that spawns behind you when your fear is high. It studies you from the shadows and vanishes the moment you try to confront it.
- Environmental Sabotage: At high fear levels, the shadows become aggressive, actively extinguishing torches and light sources around you.
- Auditory Hallucinations: Experience localized whispers, phantom cave noises, and an accelerating heartbeat as your sanity slips.
- Restless Nights: High terror levels prevent sleep. The presence of the unknown will keep you awake, forcing you to survive the night manually.
