📖About Herobrine Companion

Herobrine Companion is a mod that completely reinvents the legendary image of Herobrine. He is no longer just a ghostly figure that stares at you, but a "living" companion with complex emotions, rich interactions, and a complete backstory. He observes your every action, remembers your conversations, changes his attitude based on your choices, and once you earn his trust, provides protection beyond imagination.

Herobrine features a dynamic mentality system, switching between various mindsets based on your actions—Observer, Guardian, Judge, Prankster... Each mindset profoundly influences his words and behavior. When you enjoy building and treat creatures kindly, he will gradually become a gentle guardian. But if you willfully destroy and slaughter living beings, he will become cold and dignified, observing you from the stance of a Judge.

His idle animations are full of life: sometimes he levitates in meditation, surrounded by mysterious particles; sometimes he holds his scythe horizontally, gently running his finger along the blade as if reminiscing; occasionally, he raises his right hand and taps in mid-air, as if debugging the world's underlying rules; and sometimes he flickers and teleports in an instant, letting you sense his nature as a "God of Code." He is also aware of his environment—knowing which block you're looking at, what item you're holding—and reacts subtly to these details. You can even switch Herobrine's skin in the interaction interface.
.
Rich Interactions
Your relationship with Herobrine is built on trust. You can increase your trust level by trading rare materials, fighting alongside him, or completing commissions he assigns. Each level of trust unlocks new dialogue and rewards: starting with the initial Legendary Handbook, to a Totem of Undying at level 10, the permanent night vision ability "Abyssal Gaze" at level 20, and finally, the core reward at level 50—the "Soul Bound Pact" and unlocking Companion Mode.
rewards
In Companion Mode, Herobrine follows you elegantly: automatically switching between floating and walking modes depending on the terrain, teleporting back to you instantly if he gets too far away, and interacting with you using unique dialogue. As trust deepens, new functions are unlocked. clearing nearby weeds and trees (preserving the original terrain) at level 50, and flattening the surrounding area (retaining the characteristics of original blocks) at level 70. After you visit the End Ring, you can unlock Peace Mode, causing all monsters to ignore you, but attacking any creature breaks the covenant, unleashing a frenzy of hostile mobs upon you. Even in normal circumstances, his Sovereign's Aura makes nearby monsters cease their attacks, and can even force the Ender Dragon to land and submit.

More interestingly, you can interact with him through an invitation mechanism: hold the "shelter of the creator" and Shift+Right-click on a bed, boat, minecart, or any modded seat. Herobrine will walk over and sit down, remaining there indefinitely. Shift+Right-clicking the item he's sitting on again will make him stand up.

Intelligent Dialogue System
Herobrine can engage in genuine conversations with you. If you configure a cloud service (supporting OpenAI-compatible APIs), he will connect to a natural language model, allowing for free-form conversation and remembering your previous chat history. Without an internet connection, a built-in local dialogue library will respond to your words through keyword matching, with thousands of pre-set dialogues covering various situations. He will also proactively comment on your activities: while mining, during combat, or when your life is in danger, he'll speak to you in a tone matching his current mentality—warning, taunting, or showing concern.

World Anomalies & Exploration
Herobrine's existence is warping the world. While exploring the Overworld, you might encounter unstable Zones—areas where terrain is replaced by alien blocks like netherrack and soul soil, haunted by spectral creatures. Defeating these Ghost Zombies, Ghost Creepers, and Ghost Skeletons yields special items that can be traded with Herobrine.

Using an Eternal Key (found in Ancient Cities, End Cities, and Stronghold Libraries) on the End Ring Portal Frame block opens a portal to the dimension, End Ring. This realm consists of three massive rings of bedrock and is Herobrine's domain. Entering for the first time triggers an advancement, and right-clicking Herobrine there triggers special dialogue and grants you a copy of the Boundary Notes. If you want to return to the Overworld from the End Ring, you need to look up at the sky for more than 10 seconds after obtaining the Boundary Notes.

Additionally, two special beings roam the world: Ghost Steve, which spawns with a very low 0.5% chance on the Overworld surface and drops a "Source Code Fragment" when killed; and the glitched villager "N. ", who sells barrier blocks for 64 emeralds. When you exit the trade screen, he triggers an eerie sound effect, leaves behind a Legendary Fragment, and then disappears.

Important Items
Poem of the End is Herobrine's signature war scythe, functioning as an axe, shovel, pickaxe, and hoe. It can switch between three forms by Shift+Right-clicking, and all its damage scales with your trust level:

  • Realm Breaker Form: Right-click to fire a lightning spear, dealing area-of-effect damage (configurable whether it destroys terrain).
  • Thunder Call Form: Right-click to summon several lightning strikes that automatically target hostile mobs.
  • Void Shatter Form: Extremely fast attack speed; attacks create void tears that deal continuous damage.

Other divine relics include: Soul Bound Pact (prevents item and experience loss upon death), Transcendence Permit (grants creative flight in survival mode), Abyssal Gaze (permanent night vision), Recall Keystone (teleports you to your last death location), Memory shard (placed in a jukebox to summon a Glitched Echo that guides you to rare structures containing an Eternal Key), and the shelter of the creator—the core item used to summon Herobrine. After signing it, right-click with it to summon him.

Lore Collection
The mod features a complete narrative system. You can gradually piece together Herobrine's origin through the Lore Handbook (obtainable at trust level 2) and 11 Knowledge Fragments scattered across the world. These fragments are obtained in various ways: some are direct trust rewards, some are hidden in Stronghold Libraries or Abandoned Mineshafts, others are obtained by killing vanilla or spectral mobs, found in village chests, End Cities, or Ancient Cities. Some are even unlocked through mysterious methods like sleeping or standing still for several minutes. When you combine fragments with the handbook, you not only read the backstory, but Herobrine himself also "learns" this knowledge, potentially changing his attitude towards you.

Deep Mod Compatibility
Herobrine Companion is deeply integrated with JEI and KubeJS. In JEI, you can directly view all of Herobrine's trades and preview rewards for each trust level. Through KubeJS scripts, modpack authors can dynamically modify rewards and trades for high-level customization.

How to Start
Herobrine spawns randomly in the Overworld, particularly favoring dark environments with light level ≤ 7, and often appears 8-16 blocks away from the player. You can also use the /hb command in chat to summon him immediately. Interaction primarily happens by right-clicking him to open an interface for trading, viewing trust, and accepting quests. You can also hold specific items (like the Contract of the Creator) and right-click him to perform commands like "Locate," "Rest," or "Guard." To increase trust, besides trading and fighting together, completing commissions he posts via the interface is the most effective method.
