Diamonds are essential for the best tools, armor, and crafting Enchanting Tables . Here's exactly how to find them in 2026.
Best Y-Level for Diamonds
The optimal level for diamond mining is Y: -59
Diamond ore generates between Y: -64 and Y: 16, but is most common at the very bottom of the world. However, bedrock starts at Y: -64, so Y: -59 gives you space to mine without hitting unbreakable bedrock.
Method 1: Branch Mining (Most Efficient)
Dig down to Y: -59
Create a main tunnel 2 blocks high
Every 2 blocks, mine side tunnels (branches)
Branches should be 2 blocks apart for optimal coverage
Main Tunnel View: [WALL] ← Branch ← [YOU] → Branch → [WALL] 2 blocks apart
Method 2: Strip Mining
Mine in a straight line at Y: -59. Simple but less efficient than branch mining.
Method 3: Cave Exploration
Find caves that reach deepslate level (Y: 0 and below). Look for Deepslate Diamond Ore in cave walls.
Method 4: TNT Mining
If you have excess TNT or a Creeper farm:
Dig to Y: -59
Place TNT in rows
Detonate and collect exposed ores
